I'm pretty sure it's hand-applied, since they do nearly everything else by hand. Also, I was told that these guitars are cured for eight weeks before they are shipped to the U.S.

Excerpt from the full response: "The bottom line, IMO is that most of the 'open' sound of a new FP finish has to do with the thin coating the doesn't impede the tone much. Since I feel that most of the change in tone comes from changes in the wood over time, I would not expect the finish to have much of an effect in that respect."
