Does anyone know if it is possible to retro-fit an Eastman T386 or T486 with a bigsby tremolo? Are there aftermarket solutions out there?
Eastman T386 or T486 Bigsby retrofit?

Tim, I have a T486 classic and had the same issue. A beautiful guitar that needed that extra bit of trem. I was turned off by the size of the Bigsby and problems when restringing. My search led me to the Duesenberg Les Trem II, which checked all my boxes. It is small physically but has a large presence tremolo effect. The appearance doesn’t take away from the overall look of this beautiful guitar. The install took all of 5 minutes when changing strings. It fits perfectly. I am a very happy camper.
I’m working out of town but will be home inn a week when I will post a picture.

I especially like the look of the Les Trem II that is on the Romeo LA - but I haven't found a place to buy it. I'd like to try it on a Les Paul.

OldJock - THANK YOU! The Les Trem looks to be exactly what I am looking for. If you get a chance when you return, yes, would love to see a picture of yours.
Cheers.

Hi Tim, as promised here are the photos of my T486 with the Les Trem installed. Simply swap the tail piece for the Les Trem, it is a perfect fit.
I just changed the link so all four pictures are visible. https://oldjock.imgur.com/all

Interesting note for prospective buyers: I bought a Duesenberg Les Trem II for my Solid body SB-59GB, and it didn't work out because the stop tailpiece is too close to the bridge.
What a bummer! ...I might do a Bigsby B3 with a Towner bar possibly. Ofcourse the T386-T486's have plenty of space to install the LT II, and it is a great tremolo unit. I don't know if all the SB models are like this, but check before you purchase. |
