Played my E20OO against a Martin 0012-28 Modern Deluxe
Posted by: ChupeBigCat - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

Hello,
Thought Id share this...

I had a Martin demo against my current E20 OO more if anything to see where the apparent bar is as the E20 OO is pretty much a replica of this instrument..with a view to maybe keeping an eye on the used market or looking at a 28vs

An hour later..

Asethetics
Eastman - Very very similar, oddly the sound hole is slightly different being smaller on the Eastman , the bridge also is much beefier, the bridge on the Martin is very slight hardly pyramid at all...
The Martin had a nice mellow hue to it compared to my paler Adirondack Spruce top

The biggest difference being the neck...the Eastman has a much much rounder and substantial neck, the Martin although the nuts are similar has what I would call a very typical Modern shape and feel to it...to be honest this is the biggest downside to me...The Eastman neck profile has really grown on me and find it quite difficult to revert to such slender offerings now

My take on the sound differences
The Eastman is louder no doubt....
Th differences are no where near as wide as expected and very subtle....the Eastman is more forward in the mids and top end (Maybe the top and sound hole?) where the Martin is a bit more balanced across the spectrum but its no where near as far apart as expected

In some ways I actually prefer the Eastman its more bell like if that's your thing

Wrap-up
There's no getting away that at £4750 the Eastman is a third if not less of the price...
The fit and finish is actually very comparable. To play I much prefer the Eastman mainly due to the neck profile...Oddly the strings I use tend to be elixir nanoweb, the Martin's own brand looked brand new and a bit grabby..
Course I love the Martin name on the headstock being a bit of a brand snob in general but I'm every glad to have had had the opportunity to try these back to back in the same environment which can play trick on you as even rooms make more difference than guitars sometimes

I think that's a Martin Modern Deluxe off the list even used...I'd like to hear of anyone who's tried a vintage series 28VS and the neck on those

I'm sticking with the Eastman certainly for now ... Huss and Dalton, Collings still on the list of 'must have a look' but this type of guitar isn't I assume hugely popular so hardly huge amount try...In the interim the Eastmans is a keeper...

Hello everyone &

I have an E8D-TC with Alpine top and love the guitar, but would like to tweak the setup, may attempt lowering the bridge and am wondering if anyone here has made an attempt at doing so and if so, how did it turn out?

Please let me know and thanks,

John

  New E1P LTD parlor.
Posted by: Rrpruett - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (1)

Well I pulled the string on the new E1P LTD yesterday. Does anyone know how many of these they are making? I purchased the E100 LTD 12 fret parlor that came out in 2018. My favorite recliner guitar ever, easy to play and has a great sound. I have had a couple issues with it the bridge cracked a couple years ago and it happened gain last month. It’s at Eastman now for repair. They mentioned something about getting me a different parlor but I would not get rid of that one ever. It’s a keeper. Plus it’s No 1 of 130 so they only made 130 of these. I’m just wondering how many of this E1P they will make. I also noticed that it has a different bridge then mine.

I also want to say that Eastman has treated me right on the repair. It played just as good when I got it back. So you may be asking yourself why would you spend $850 for a new one if you have one. Well the new one has a great looking finish and I just like parlor guitars.

I asked The acoustic shoppe if they could order me a Parlor guitar with an arm bevel and a sound hole from Eastman like my 622CE but apparently they can’t. I wound up putting an arm bevel pad on mine because after a few hrs my inner forearm is not feeling to too good.

I should be getting mine a couple weeks or so. I just hope it’s as good as my 2018 LTD.

Here is a link to the new one. https://www.eastmanguitars.com/e1p_ltd

Eastman T184 MX changes with time
Posted by: duner9 - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - No Replies

Hi,  own a October 2011 production of T184 MX which has a pick guard attached.   I've noticed that the new T184's being sold have no pick guards.    Also the pickups have changed.  Mine have Seymour Duncan Humbuckers  SH-1B's and the new ones have Bare Knuckle pickups.

Does anyone know of any significant changes from the early 2010's to now?

thanks.

  AC-330E-12 in Sunburst???
Posted by: Funky Chicken - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (2)

So my latest Eastman impulse buy is a 12 string that I found listed as "used" on a dealer site where I have purchased other "used" guitars over the years. Its an AC-330E-12 in a Sunburst finish. After receiving it, it has quickly become a favorite.
Since I had not seen another in this finish, I decided to google around and see if there are any others in the market. According to a dealer on Reverb, this is a limited edition of only 5 worldwide. I don't know if that is accurate or not. I just got a great deal on a great guitar. My Taylor 12 string is back in the case.

  E40 series over E20's
Posted by: ChupeBigCat - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (2)

Hello,
In the market for a small O or OO (more likely) and the E40's regardless of model seem near double the price where there is a modest uplift from 10 to 20..

Apart from the abalone bling and maybe more recognisable tuners...what has tempted those away to the with the extra cash?

I'm interested in what the appeal was beyond aesthetics which the 40 gave over and above the 10/20?

Many thanks

Not sure if it's raining in your neck of the woods, but here's a great Tommy Emmanuel song either way Smile

  Atkin owners?
Posted by: SasquatchLife - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (11)

Howdy. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season with family and friends. GAS has infected me yet again, and I'm seeking out opinions on the Atkin acoustic guitars. Does anyone own one? If so, thoughts, pros/cons? I'm really wanting their J43 dread (basically Gibson J45).

Various channels on YT rave about the J43, and it does sound amazing through my phone.

I'm wanting to purchase my first boutique guitar soon, and Atkin has caught my eye. And for boutique brands, they're not as expensive as some of the brands.

Thanks!
