Hey All , , ,
I recently purchased a 2007 AC 520 in Eugene, Oregon and this guitar is a CANNON. It is in great cosmetic condition but has been tortured in its 17 years of being played, from what I can only guess would be the use of "medium gauge string" tension on the neck , , , causing the top to bulge in front and behind the bridge. Someone's idea of how to fix this was to shave the bridge down and reduce the saddle to all but nothing in order to get the action to a playable height. Oh, and it could use a neck-set also.
Poor guitar. But that being said, it stays in tune, sounds wonderful. Surprisingly, the tone is absolutely wonderful. And It is much, much louder than my 2009 E20D (I like the older Eastmans a lot).
That being said, I have a question about the Serial Number which is 1931-2. Does anyone know what the -2 means after the 4-digit number? Does anyone know if the Eastman Factory has repaired any of these older models? Or perhaps where I could get this done to bring it back to its original condition? I stopped into one shop in Eugene and was told $2000 dollars for a neck-set.
I'm thinking "ridiculous" but these days the world and prices may have passed me by when I stopped playing in coffee shops and just strum away happily at home.
Happy New Year to all and thanks for taking the time to browse through my long post. Jeff
