Hopefully you will find this video helpful. I've installed buttons successfully following this method. Also as obvious as it seems make sure you install on the correct side of the heel if you choose this method. I've heard horror stories of people making the mistake of accidentally drilling on the wrong side, thankfully I haven't done so myself.

That about covers it but with one exception - bolt-on necks. You really need to know where those bolts are to make sure you don't drill into the bolts.
