Lollar vs. Duncan in TV64v
#11
Good morning,
This is a question that interests me as well.
I just bought myself the T64v red.... The model is from 2022 so they are Lollar Custom.
I also have an Epiphone Casino Worn MIC that I upgraded with Antiquity SD. It sounds very good too, but as the violin is not of the same quality, it is difficult to get an idea and know which of the two I prefer. I like both. What I do know is that the Lollar magnets are Alnico V, while the SD ones are Alnico II. The Lollar seem to have a higher output level than the SD, in practice they go faster in crunch and saturation depending on the setting of the amp. While the SD are softer with a lower output level.
I would like to try the T64v with the SD Antiquity to determine which ones I prefer. No doubt one day I will, I read on forums that the SD Antiquity transcribes the harmonics better, with more complexity. My hypothesis is that the Lollar are good for rock and the SD are perfect for bright jazzy. That said I love the Lollar but especially the T64 which has such a great handle compared to my Casino.
I specify so that there is no ambiguity that I am a jazz cat...

One thing to consider is that the T64/v uses 250k ohm pots for both volume and tone which will definitely darken things up. Casinos use 500k ohm pots (Lollar also recommends 500k pots for their P90s). I just bought a T/64L/v (lefty) and will likely swap out the pots in the not too distant future as I definitely favor a brighter Casino tone (Jazz folks might prefer the 250k pots).

I wonder, but it's not certain. I made here a video which proves the opposite, and where the sound is rather very brilliant. What do you think?

I'm not sure if all the T/64s sport 250k ohm pots, but the newer goldburst ones with Lollars do. You can certainly get a brilliant tone with either complement of potentiometers if you turn up the treble on your amp, but the tonal character isn't the same.

The amp's tone settings were at 12 o'clock. To tell the truth, I don't know if my T64 is 250 or 500 ohms, but you're right 250 or 500 ohms change the efficiency of the treble filtering. I'll look at what capabilities is mounted on my tone knobs.

I am glad to hear you are enjoying your guitar! Our records show it is a mid 2018 model, so it is most likely you have Seymour Duncan pickups installed. We started making the switch to Lollar's at the end of 2018 so that all of our 2019 models had the Lollar's installed.

Thank you,
Eastman Guitars
If you get a little dentists mirror, you should be able stick it through the  f holes and read the underside of the pickups to know for sure.
