Hey that's the guitar I used on my pic here and I love it. Anyways, I've really enjoyed Martin 12-56 (bluegrass gauge) in 80/20. But I recently got a bunch of D'addario XT 12-53 in PB and put some on and it sounds really good as well. The 80/20s seem to give it a bit more note separation and clarity which I enjoy and the 56 gives it a bit more in the lows which I also enjoy. But the Martin uncoated strings don't last a long time which is the main downside for me. Although they still last about 2 months and then the volume seems to fade. Hope that helps.

As with Shishigashira, I love my E2D, but have gone a different direction with the strings.  I have tried D'Addario EJ16s PB 12-53, Martin MA540 PB 12-54, and finally settled on DR Rare PB 12-54.  The D'addarios were OK, but not inspiring.  The MA540s have a bit more tonal character, and I would be fine using them if not for the availability of DR Rares.

Personally, of the strings I have tried, I really like the DR Rare's sound best on this guitar.  Although, that might be a tonal bias, as I find that I prefer the DR Rares on most of my guitars! Thanks to Brian for recommending the DR Rares way back when!

I've had a set of Martin SP Light/Mediums (they're gauged right between mediums and light through the entire set....55.5-12.5).  I really like these strings, and they sound great on this guitar.

I use those for my E10ss/v and they've been great!  I haven't thought about trying them on the E2D because i've been so happy with the 80/20s.  I would definitely recommend 80/20s for those looking for additional clarity as well as using light/mediums or thicker for additional volume (particularly low end) and responsiveness from the guitar.   But i bet these sound terrific too.  I think its just not a very picky guitar.

I went ahead and purchased these Martin SP Light-Mediums. Excited to try them out to go along with my DR Rares

Turns out that I have 2 packs of these Martin bluegrass strings already, lol. I purchased these 2 years ago and totally forgot about them.

Can't wait for my E2D to arrive! Been GASing for one of these for about 3 years.

Good thread. I’d love to hear what you all use on your E2s. I have Elixir PB lights on mine, but I bet I can do better.
