Romeo v California
#1
Hi all

Has anybody got any thoughts on the differences between the original Romeo (hollow and spruce top) v the Romeo California (centre block and maple lam top).

Interested to see if anybody has insights into what the differences are. They are also about £700 difference in list price - seems a big step between them.

I like the idea of the Romeo being very light, spruce top etc
The California seems to take it right back to being a slightly different shaped 335.

Thanks in advance folks

Hi Jozie - I can think a couple of factors (there might be others) which would lead to a price differential. The Romeo has a sold carved top (which you know) and Lollar Custom wound Imperial Humbuckers vs laminate top and cheaper Bare Knuckle Old Guard Humbuckers on the Romeo California.

Thanks Alan - that perhaps explains the price difference.

I was wondering if anybody had a sense of the difference in sound feel/application for the two models.
I like the idea of the original Romeo - ultra light, almost fully hollow - more like an archtop/330 combo.
Sounds like it occupies its own space.

The California model seems as thought it may be just a different shaped 335 - similar sounds which I already have covered off.

Cheers again
