Hi Everyone,
Can anyone advise me regarding upgrading my E1 OM Upgrade Tuners? I have had it for almost two years now I'm so happy with it that I'm sure it will be my last acoustic guitar. The tuners IMO are not consistent in rotation moving back and forth to get to pitch. So any info about where to buy upgrades preferably ones that just unscrew and re-attach without altering the headstock fastening holes
Many thanks for any suggestions
Alan

Gotoh SE700. You can spend more but they wouldn't necessarily be better. If you want a different look, try the Gotoh SD-90. Just make sure you buy a set with 23.8 or 23.9 mm spacing on the mounting screws.

Hi, TomC,
Thanks for the most helpful links, however, my E1 Om tuners measure 26mm between hole centres.
I will try to send a couple of photos now, never done it before I hope they come through. I'm not sure where the 23.8 or 23.9 dimensions come in here... but my tuner hole centre dimension are 26mm... \ny ideas Tom thanks again...Alan

Gotoh also makes a set with 25 mm spacing (
https://g-gotoh.com/product/se770/?lang=en ) as well as Schaller GrandTunes and for big money you can look at Waverly tuners on StewMac. Based on your incorrect spelling of center (centre

) I am assuming you are in Europe or maybe Canada. If that is true, I would look at the Schallers.
Also I have never used them, but have read some good reviews, Shertler out of Switzerland makes a set that has the same screw center line -

good advice from Tom as per usual. As for the availability of guitar tuners in the UK, between Amazon, ebay and JPguitars (and others) you should be able to source any tuners you want. And by the way, those photos you posted are good enough to be in a text book! Are you a photographer by profession?

Hi Tom C,
Thanks for further links. My correct spelling of centre places me in the UK.
have been trying to figure out why you were specific regarding the hole centres i.e. 23.8-23.9mm when ordering, is there a reason for this, surely they will not suit my E1 OM. Gotoh tuners at 25mm centres should work with a bit of tweaking... do you think Tom?
Cheers

Yes they should. 1 mm will not be a problem. One issue is the opening on the back of the headstock might need to be opened a touch. The Gotoh's have a support ring right at the base of the string post. This is slightly wider than the Ping tuner at the base of the post. You can use a tapered reamer and open up
just the back of the headstock enough so that the new tuner sits flush. It shouldn't take much.
Tom
PS - One last note - I have always re-used the screws from the Pings. I believe the screws that come with the Gotohs are slighty larger/longer with a longer shoulder. Compare the screws and how they fit into the existing holes before proceeding.
PPS - Forgot to answer you question. The reason the center line distance is important - if you have 25 mm center holes and try a set with 23.9 mm, the mounting holes won't line up and you will have to either: a) drill a new hole or b) insert the screws at a slight angle. It would be easier just to find a set with the same mounting hole dimensions. (25 or 26 mm)
