Clint Strong

I'll try not to delete this even tho this is not much of a jazz appreciators forum. When I first heard Clint years ago he was playing with Freddie Powers who then introduced him to Haggard and he wound up playing in Merle's band for 6or7 years. That's when I had to know more about Clint. I went on to find out he had studied with Howard Roberts when he was about 9 years old.

Clint has some great stories of growing up around many of the multi-instrument premier players that were friends of his dad and would come to his dad's house and play and where he got to meet and learn from the true musical masters.

Here's Clint in 1982 at the old age of 17 years old playing live in a 3 piece with Fred Crane (piano) Bruce Lett (Bass). Clint has had many ups and downs in life. I was very pleased that he recently started a youtube channel.

Hey Charlie ... thanks for sharing!  I wasn't familiar with him.  Amazing player.

I admire Jazz a lot... Earl Klugh, Joe Pass and of course George Benson are among my favorites.

Glad you like Clint. He's such an amazing player. Everything he does is spectacular playing, When Sonny Gets Blue he plays with such soul and emotion in his note selection, it's amazing that such a young player has such intricate feeling.

In an interview Clint had he was talking about a practice with Merle where he played this nice chord voicing and Merle stopped the practice and asked Clint "what is that?...Clint being a theory wizard explained to Merle how the voicing was correct to which Merle said "It's not correct in this band !" Clint laughs and said "I just learned something, the voicing was not correct in that band"

If anyone is interested here's a great interview with Clint about his time with the Strangers and growing up playing

Anyone that's familiar with Tom Morrell knows he was the master of the Steel guitar with no pedals or knee levers. Here is a fantastic album of Tom's with Clint Strong on guitar and omg what some great playing everyone does. It's a must know of group of some of the finest players ever!

Just when I think I heard the best then the next song comes along lol
